You will have an impact

At DNB your work will have an impact on financial stability and sustainable prosperity, right from the first day of this unique internship. You will apply your expertise to help ensure financial stability and sustainable prosperity for everyone in the Netherlands. You will deal with the financial issues in today’s society, such as the impact of geo-economic fragmentation on financial markets and financial stability, the risks of climate change for financial institutions, or the impact of monetary policy on financial markets. You will not do this alone, but together with a group of central bank interns who start on the same day.

This is what you will be doing as an intern at DNB

As a central bank, we are committed to social relevance and technological innovation. We offer our staff members opportunities for flexibility and personal development. We have two types of internships from which you can choose. In a traditional internship, you will collaborate as a staff member in a project or current topic. In a graduation project internship, you will consider economic issues. Your thesis will make a valuable contribution to our day-to-day activities.

• You will contribute to financial market analyses or policy advice for European organisations and international bodies.
• You will get to explore your areas of interest. From macro-prudential buffers for banks and other financial institutions to the impact of geo-economic fragmentation, and from digital innovations such as AI and crypto currencies to the implications of global interest rate movements for European financial markets.
• You will learn skills that will benefit you for the rest of your professional and personal life, from giving persuasive presentations to defining your position in multidisciplinary meetings.
• You will enrich your CV by working for an organisation of international stature.
   

This is where you will be working

The internship programme includes three profiles: (Macro)economics & monetary economics, Data & tech, and Financial stability & financial markets. Together with your fellow interns, you'll go through an introduction programme and kick-off, and you'll exchange experiences. This way, we will make sure you quickly find your place in our organisation. Our Amsterdam office is our home base, the place where we meet, share knowledge and work together. You will be in the office at least half of your working week, and we offer you sufficient flexibility to choose other workplaces and times that suit you. Most colleagues choose to be in the office between two and four days a week. It goes without saying that we facilitate remote working by providing you with a laptop.

What other characteristics are we looking for?

• You are a Master's student, and you must be registered at an educational institution. While your subject of study is not our first concern, you must have a demonstrable affinity with (financial) economics and/or financial markets.
• You have excellent communication skills. You are able to complete the internship either in Dutch or in English. You possess good speaking and writing skills in English.
• You are available from 1 September 2025 for a period of four to six months.

• Monthly remuneration €650 gross, based on a 36-hour working week.
• If you do not have a student travel card, we will reimburse your public transport commuting expenses. 
• A full-time working week is 36 hours, and working hours are flexible. This means you can choose to work four 9-hour days, for example.
• Access to in-house courses, workshops and sports facilities.
• A laptop.
• Feel free to join JongDNB, the association for and by young DNB staff members. JongDNB organises professional and social activities, such as study trips, lunch seminars and monthly cocktail hours. A great way to build a network at DNB that you will also enjoy later in your professional career!
